Common signs your Furnace may be in need of service or repairs
Breakdowns in heating systems often come out of nowhere. One day they work perfect and the next day not so much! However, there are many cases where your furnace may be showing signs of future trouble well before it is completely broken. If you can catch these signs early enough, you may be able to avoid the hassle and cost of a major heating system break down.
Strange Noises- Many clients are in-tune with the typical noises that come from there HVAC system. If you notice a change to your furnaces normal running sounds it may be trying to tell you something.
Frequent starting and stopping- A furnace that is starting and stopping more frequently than it typically does, may be trying to tell you something! Often this frequent starting and stopping is being caused by a safety relay interrupting operation so the furnace can cool down. If you notice your furnace running more frequently, its time for a service visit.
Odors- Often odors coming through vents are frequently traced back to melting electrical components inside the furnace. If you notice a strange smell coming though the furnace vents, be sure to shut off the gas and power to the furnace and call for service ASAP.
Water leakage- For high efficiency furnaces, one of the byproducts of making heat is water. That water should be draining out of the furnace through a series of drain hoses. If you notice water around the furnace area that means there is an issue with something. Water leakage in and around the furnace should be addressed as soon as possible before other serious failures can occur!
If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms with your heating system, its best to take action as soon as possible.
